Japan Fireworks Festival 2023 | Oshino Hakkai Matsuri
I went to see the Hakkai Festival fireworks display held at Oshino Junior High School in Oshino Village, Minamitsuru District, Yamanashi Prefecture Japan on August 8, 2023.
Oshino Village, Minamitsuru District, Yamanashi Prefecture is a basin 936 meters above sea level surrounded by Mt. Fuji, one of Japan’s most famous mountains, and the Misaka Mountains.
In addition, Oshino Hakkai is a famous tourist spot with eight springs whose source is underground water from Mt. Fuji.
Oshino Hakkai is registered as a World Cultural Heritage Site as part of the component assets of “Mt. Fuji – Object of Faith and Source of Art.”
It is also popular because you can enjoy the view of the blue, highly transparent pond and Mt. Fuji in the background.
The name “Hakkai” comes from the Hakkai pilgrimage, a pilgrimage to eight springs that Fuji-ko people took when climbing Mt. Fuji, and is based on the Buddhist philosophy of respecting the number eight.
The Hakkai Festival itself has a short history, and this year marks the 46th anniversary of the festival, which is held on August 8th every year.
It is held to pray for the peace and prosperity of the village and to enshrine the eight great dragon kings, the guardian deities of Oshino Hakkai.
The person in charge of launching the fireworks was Marugo Co., Ltd., which was in charge of launching the fireworks at the Shinmei Fireworks Festival held in Ichikawa Misato Town the day before.
Along with the laser show, a total of 5,888 fireworks such as music star mines will be launched in time with the music.
