Cherry Blossoms bloom in Takagi River

The Takagi River, with its beautiful cherry blossoms in the spring, is an artificial river created for the purpose of flood control and reclamation in the Shinainuma area of Matsushima Town, Miyagi Prefecture Japan.
There was once a vast marsh called Shinainuma in this area, and it was often damaged by flooding due to the backflow from the Naruse River.
A tunnel (Genroku Senketsu) was dug to drain the water of Shinainuma, which was often hit by floods during the Genroku era.
However, as the sediment accumulated later and this waterway stopped functioning, a new Meiji senketsu was dug.
In the Showa period, construction (siphon type) was carried out to cross the river under the Yoshida and Naruse rivers, and it seems that the Shinainuma area is still protected from flood damage.
It is not well known as a cherry blossom spot in Miyagi Prefecture Japan, but cherry trees are planted in the section of the Takagi River, which is approximately 1.7km from the Naruse River to the Meiji senketsu.
The official name of this row of cherry trees is unknown, but it is popularly called by various people, such as “Takagi River Cherry Blossoms”, “Shinainuma Cherry Blossoms”, and “Hataya District Cherry Blossoms”.
