Spirited Away World’s & Night View of Shima Onsen
This is a video of the night view of the Shiman Onsen Sekizenkan(四万温泉積善館) , which is rumored to have become the model for the Ghibli movie “Spirited Away”, and the hot spring town with a retro Showa era atmosphere.
Shimaonsen is a hot spring town located in Nakanojo-cho, Agatsuma-gun, Gunma Prefecture Japan. It has a long history of opening hot springs from the end of the Nara period to the beginning of the Heian period, and the first hot spring inn was established at the end of the Warring States period.
Among the existing hot spring inns, Sekizenkan, which is the oldest hot spring inn in Japan, opened in 1691 and was designated as an important cultural property of Gunma Prefecture due to its importance.
In addition, along with Gaga Onsen in Miyagi Prefecture and Yuhira Onsen in Oita Prefecture, it is called “the three major hot springs in Japan that are effective against gastrointestinal diseases.”
It is also called “Kusatsu’s finishing hot spring” because it is derived from staying at Shiman Onsen, which is effective for moisturizing and beautiful skin, after bathing in Kusatsu Onsen, which is strongly acidic.
There are several hot spring towns that are said to have become the “yuya” model of the Ghibli movie “Spirited Away”.
However, although Director Hayao Miyazaki himself admits that he modeled hot spring towns in various parts of Japan, he also said that there is no specific model.
