This is the takeoff of Japan Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-90-30 JA8063, which was temporarily put into service at Yamagata Airport due to the Great East Japan Earthquake.
The aircraft was once removed from regular service, but was reinstated due to the Great East Japan Earthquake. Airport staff were seen seeing it off on its second final flight.
J-Air, a member of the Japan Airlines Group, flew special flights to Tohoku immediately after the Great East Japan Earthquake, working hard to secure transportation for those who were unable to escape. At the same time, the McDonnell Douglas MD-90-30, which had once been withdrawn from Yamagata Airport prior to its retirement, was also put into service as a special flight until the end of April.
JA8063 continues to fly as JAS Japan Air System’s “Rainbow Color No. 3” and has been repainted in Sun-Arc livery since merging with Japan Airlines.
