[Japan’s lowest mountain] Hiyoriyama, Gamou tidal flats, Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture Japan
Hiyoriyama, which has regained its status as the lowest mountain in Japan after being damaged by the tsunami in the Great East Japan Earthquake, is located in the Gamo tidal flats in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture Japan.
The original number one mountain in Japan was previously Mount Tempo in Osaka (4.53m above sea level), with Hiyoriyama being the second highest in Japan at 6.05m above sea level.
However, the mountain collapsed due to the damage caused by the massive tsunami and land subsidence caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake. Subsequent measurements showed that its height was now 3m above sea level, and it once again regained its position as the lowest in Japan.
Both are artificial hills made by human hands, and the number one natural mountain is Tokushima’s Bentenyama (6.1m above sea level).
This footage was filmed in 2010, before the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred.
